Six Sigma is a fact-based, data-driven philosophy of quality improvement that values defect prevention over defect detection. It drives customer satisfaction and bottom-line results by reducing process variation and eliminating waste; thereby providing a competitive advantage. It applies anywhere variation and waste exists and involves every employee in the organization. In a Six Sigma organization, two approaches are utilized: 1) DMAIC, a rigorous and robust method, utilizes five stages (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control) to drive incremental improvements, and 2) DMADV (Define, Measure, Analyze, Design, Verify) is a more rigorous, lengthy methodology applied mostly to design for Six Sigma for new process or product creation or redesign.
